The Australian Developmental Curriculum The Junior Department at Camp Hill Primary School has gradually introduced the Australian Developmental Curriculum into their daily classroom routine over the past three years. The program is aimed at improving the transition from kindergarten to school and recognises that children who leave pre-school or day care still need to learn the same way as they did in those settings. At the beginning of the year, activities look very much like those experienced at pre-school. Teachers allow for creativity and open-ended problem solving. They promote the attainment of knowledge, understandings and skills through a variety of hands on construction using a variety of materials. They provide for dramatic play where language development can thrive. Children’s interests are catered to in a variety of ways. Teachers plan with specific goals in mind, ensuring that both boys and girls are challenged, and that key learning areas such as Mathematics and English are an integral part of each day. The Australian developmental Curriculum was developed by Kathy Walker. Kathy has been our mentor during the past three years.
