Travel Smart

Camp Hill Primary School - Travel Smart

The aim of developing this School Travel Plan is to reduce the number of school trips that students take by car, in favour of more environmentally friendly and healthier ways of travelling, especially walking and cycling. Where walking or cycling are not a viable means of transport to school, the School Travel Plan encourages the use of public transport or car pooling.

This School Travel Plan sets out actions to encourage students and their parents/carers to change the way they travel, leading to a range of positive outcomes including:

  • improved health and fitness of students;
  • improved safety for students and their parents/carers;
  • reduced traffic congestion around the school especially between 8.00am and 9.00am and 3.00pm and 4.00pm;
  • improved road safety for students outside the school grounds;
  • stronger connections and greater interaction between students, parents/carers and the local community;
  • improved student independence as well as more opportunities for social interaction;
  • improved air quality around the school and a significant contribution toward sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution;
  • increased awareness within the school community of environmental issues and the positive and practical actions people can take to reduce their environmental impact;
  • increased travel choices for students and parents/carers.
